buzzword of the day - attempting suicide

yessire, and in the heart of nie, that is..

was crossing over to nie for a noon gym seesion, wanted to pass the open area between two buildings when the security shoved me into the corridor. and i saw the other security officials doing the same thing to other students..
then i saw that area been cordoned off with white-and-red tape. knew something amiss. i thought they were trying something dangerous stunts or something like that, but somehow everything doesn't seemed right..
then i saw lots of people looking up at something.. perhaps they are hanging up something high above but i didn't see anything huge as i walked further and further.. until i popped my head out from the corridor. to my shock: a man, early twenties, fair, t-shirt and jeans, sitting just outside the window, with little footing under him..
i was like:" oh man.."
the crowd was gathering, but i just went on my way, not out of indifference, but there's really nothing i could do but watch, so i carried on.. but i really hoped he wouldn't jump at all.. so i popped out my head once every 20 metres, to see if he was still up there, and luckily he was..
after an hour's gym, gone. the man's gone, the tape's gone, everything went on as if nothing had happened, although you could hear whisperings as you walked along that corridor.. saw no blood on the ground, no police, no undertakers. luckily no jump took place, much to my relief..
morale? if you have something pressured up in you, left it out, find someone, there's at least 1 person in the world who you can talk to.. me for example..
suicide is a means, a silly one also.. impeding exams, unreasonable and idiotic fyp supervisor, broken relationship.. whatever, really unwise to end it all just because you can't take it anymore..

let's do capoeira!!

c'mon, eh!! gin...ga, gin...ga, gin..ga, ...

my 1st capo-robot.. haha..
after a few days of modelling, a morning of texturing, an hour of posing, and voila, he is born!! and posing in the ginga posture, ready to kick your ass!

rigging still need to be done, before i can do some animation.. but for now, he's cool, and i'm bloody busy..

back to my fyp, which is far from done, and the deadline for the concept art is today.. man..

batizado and capoeira performance

wednesday saw our batizado, where the new students of capoeira are officially initiated into path of capoeira by playing and being rasteira-ed by a mestre..



i played with professor ivan.. it was rather fast game, due to the shortage of time and the large number of students, i was out in less than 2 mins.. man..



prof ivan handing me the corda by tying it for us for the first time, like a mother teaching her child to tie the shoelace for the first time..



our guest capoeiristas from philippines, very hot and enthusiatic babes they are, but sorry guys, these beautiful ones are taken.. aww..

thursday saw us at the brazilian cultural performance..
we had percussion by the mestres, followed by 'street fighting' by mestre ousado and mestre from poland, maculele performance, berimbau jamming, solo capoeira display, then the final roda..



maculele is a dance played with 2 sticks where the performers will dance and sing and strike their maculeles along with atabaque and berimbau in the background in a rhythmic fashion..

berimbau jamming, where all the mestres and professors try to outdo each other by gaining the loudest cheers from the audience.. an magnificent display of technique and innovation.. finally it was mestre limina who won..

professor joel, fantasma and ivan wowed the audience with their gravity-defying moves and flips.. especially ivan with his famous one-hand spinning, which he almost threw himself off the stage..

the performance could have reached its peak if all the students were able to paticipate in the final roda, which mestre ousado finally made only the females and selected guys to participate, much to my friends' and my disappointment..

nonetheless, samba is not an item to be missed out as a brazilian culture. so after the roda, we danced to the uplifting rhythm of samba onstage.. oh well, i finally get to get on stage and do something.. haha..

all in all, a fantastic performance was put up for all, which could not have been possible without all the help from the mestres and students alike.. a night to remember..

thanks again to my friends who took time to come watch the performance: hong wei, evette, henry, yumei, ting ting and her cousin, leonard and his friend suxann..

capoeira workshop day 1

simply outstanding..

day 1 of the 3-day capoeira workshop at nus..
the turnout was better than ihad expected initially, there were about 30 newbies who came for the workshop, and around 50 capoeiristas from around the region, manila to be exact..

we were so fortunate to be graced with capoeira mestres from switzerland, germany, philippines, and other countries which i can't recall at this moment..
and also, the brazilian ambassador from brazil embassy, who had himself trained capoeira when he was 'our' age, so you can roughly guess his 'actual' age now, haha..

we started by singing some capoeira songs to build up synergy, led by mestre xxx from switzerland. i got to tell you, no one would ever let him stay in a hdb, cause he can sing the whole building down with his strong and powerful chords..
towering over 8 feet, the tallest mestre easily, but respectful he is.. bowing and praying whenever playing with us or mestre ousado..

next, we started learning some new yet very effective moves from a mestre from germany. well, no point describing here, too lasy to type it all out anyway.. haha..

time flew like bulllet, and we were almost at the end of the workshop, but of course not without ending with a much-anticipated roda.. it was the batizado for denise and another malay gal who are leaving the country before wednesday, our official batizado..

the roda started with mestre ousado with another mestre.. a display of angola capoeira at its purest form.. the movements of deceit and counterattacks were just too fantastic.. some much pointers could be taken from that game itself..
next, all are welcomed to play in the roda. the mestres, the instructors, and us capoeiristas.. all of us had a common but unspoken aim, to see the mestres perform their gravity-defying moves, like back sommersault, the s-dobrado to 360-one-hand-spin, you get the picture..

i managed to get 2 short clips today, will host it by tomorrow for all to download. i'm still waiting for the pictures from others.. so stay tuned..

well, very tired now, but still need to do some reading before sucumbing to fatigue for tomorrow is day 2..

found this stunning picture while surfing the net, no, not because i'm bored and have nothing to do, because i need to..
well well, what a wonderful excuse, you might say, but really!

it has of course everything to do with my work, i need ideas for the background for my storyboard for my final year project..
for one, i'm very fortunate to be able to have a fyp which allows me to:
1. draw pictures and pictures and pictures,
2. design characters, scenes, monsters(i hope),
3. create a story,
4. plan,
5. produce,
6. direct,
7. model (well, 3d, that is),
8. animate,
9. rig,
10. edit,

i mean, have you ever heard that a technological university that ever provide such project for their students? i think not!

but anyway, finally after 6 weeks of cracking our brains and arguing over clashs of ideas, our story for the animated commercial is close to its birth..
all we need is the detailed storyboard and its characters, which is why i'm still working hard on it, to get in time for the discussions tomorrow, which i think is today now, since it has already past midnight..

now, i need sleep..
