capoeira festival 2005

yes, the capoeira festival is back, and with a bang this time!!
why, well, it's just because i'm in it, that's why!
no.. it's because it is much bigger and more organized this time
with mestres coming in from so many countries like brazil, france, germany, philippines, malaysia, thailand and many more, it's going to be just outstanding!!

there'll be performances and workshops by them, the maculele dance demostration as well, but most importantly, it's going to be my 1st batizado, which is our graduation ceremony, where new students are intitated officially into the path of capoeira..

it's going to be really cool, and i've been training my butt off almost everyday..
very tiring but definitely worth it..

so if you think you are interested, do drop me a message to find out more..
cheers

taka roda

dear all, there's a last minute announcement from my capoeira friend that we are going to perform outside takashimaya tomorrow at 5pm.. drop by if you are free..
cheers..

summer party '05

yesterday saw me and my capoeira group in sentosa for some performances for a family day by some company..
it was raining so heavily when i left for harbourfront that i thought the performance would be rained out. but luckily, it stopped raining when i arrived there.
so frustrations and glitches which should be made better:
1, the performance was at 4pm, but why did mestre ask us to meet at 130pm? so they can have lunch, which he did not mention, and the rest of us? sit around and see them eat! which is a completely waste of our time! if not that lina and i went to the train station to wait for the rest of those who were performing, i would have died from boredom..
2, there were 2 performances instead of 1, which was what all of us had thought, until joe broke it out to us. i, and few others, were quite disatisfied that such information wasn't told to us in the first place..

but oh well, such little unhappiness aside, the performance was rather good, but i must admit that the ground was very rough to play the roda.. my feet were both sore from the abrasion.. the audience were very impressed by our moves, but quite reserved when invited to come forward for a little workshop..

it ended around 430pm, the next performance was at 715pm.. yes, very long gap..
so we decided to check out the event itself, i think it is a very big company to hold such a big family day with so many performances, including wendi koh, our local rock singer.. there were also the belly dancers; mr mic, the snake charmer (haha); the safri boys from africa, their performance was the most outdstanding by my standard; a percussion group; a large play area for the kids, massage area, tarot cards reading corner, bar, food corners, blown-up rock climbing area for the kids.. just so numerous to spell each out..

we grabbed some food, i think lots of them.. and after ogling at the belly dancers, they have such nice.. waists.. we headed for the beach for some fun roda and stunts..
i can officially announce that i hate doing roda on sand just because you get sand in you if you fall, and sand on everyone else if you do a kick or a jump.. just too irritating.. so we decided to do specified moves and stunts..

2nd performance was done on a smaller stage, to much displeasure to our mestre, but we had not much options..
we did a very cautious roda, nothing too fanciful and high, fearing we might clashed into the musical instruments behind us, or fall down the stage in the front.. oh well..

it ended very well, but i wasn't really in the mood for the responses.. i just want to get home and rest.. i had a bad running nose that day and i just want to meet my bed.. haha.. but overall, i like doing capoeira performance, anticipating the next one and the next.. well, till then, i will train hard..

cheers

neverending modelling..

well, even when the previous two models are far from complete, i've started on another model..
this time round, it's a hermit zoids that i'm modelling..

if you haven't know what is a zoids, just do a search on google..
it has been my favourite toy since young, even now..
since my wardrobe has crushed all my zoids into smisterings, i have to start a new collection.. haha.. what a good excuse..

this took me about 2 weeks' effort, about 1 to 2 hours a day, i'm telling you, i'm getting more and more obsessed with maya.. i really need someone to help me get out of this obsession.. anyone kind enough??
oh well..

cheers

cello modelling now..

i was modelling a gundam.. but somehow putting it aside to do a cello modelling for my colleague in the same lab as i am..
he's doing a project on virtual orchestra and he asked me to help model some musical instruments, including the cello above..
a work of 2 weeks.. about 2 to 3 hours a day..
it has more than 1000 polygons!! and it isn't even finished yet! man, i'm going to have a hard time reducing the poly counts..

saturday, 10am, in the lab, alone..
what a wonderful day it is..
cheers..

jagd doga modelling post #01

i've started a wip thread in cgtalk for a gundam modelling wip..
and so i'll post the pictures here so i can link them to the thread..

anyway, it's the foot of the gundam model, amateurish in terms of modeling and shading, but hey, we all have got to start from somewhere isn't it?

cheers..
